Smart Bottles Limit Broken Glass and Help Reduce Emissions
RFID Test Bottles Help Bottle Makers Go Light on the Glass
A consumer environmental group that wants to help cut fuel emissions and decrease waste has created a program to encourage companies to produce lighter bottles and glass containers for beverages and food.
The system uses special RFID-based bottles in production to test for areas of the production line that could damage glass. By eliminating these potential collision points, the manufacturers can cut down on broken bottles that end up in landfills and potentially begin producing lighter bottles – thus reducing the fuel needed to transport bottles from factories to stores, from stores to homes and from homes to recycling centers.
In this way, RFID can make a positive contribution to the environment.
