Car-sharing services help encourage sustainable practices
Many countries around the world now have one or more "car-sharing" companies or associations which are being applauded for the way their offer not only provides a service to users but also to the planet.
By making it easy to get a car when you need one, car-sharing companies reduce the overall number of cars on the roads and encourage people to group their errands together in efficient ways. Having access to a car only when you need it can be an excellent alternative to owning a second car … or it can be an alternative to owning a car at all!
Most of these car-sharing services are made possible thanks to RFID: When you subscribe or join the service, you get an RFID badge or keychain. If you need a car for an hour, a day, or even the weekend, you reserve it by telephone or on the Internet using your member ID number.
In the time it takes you to use public transportation or to walk to your neighborhood car-sharing parking spot, your reservation has been activated, and an RFID reader in the vehicle allows you to engage the motor and drive away.
