Relaxing with RFID
Making your holiday or workout more fun
The Smith family is on vacation at a resort in Europe. Each day, the family leaves their hotel room for the pool and the beach. Mr and Mrs Smith don’t want to have to worry about their wallets while relaxing near the pool or bathing in the sea, and they want their children to be able to get the food and drinks they need throughout the day.
Fortunately, the resort has implemented an RFID-based cashless payment system. Each member of the Smith family is issued with a waterproof bracelet. When the children want a drink or a snack, they order it from the restaurant and pay by swiping their RFID wristband across a reader. Each person can also use the bracelet to pay for entrance to attractions at the resort, such as shows and exhibitions, or to rent surfboards and beach baskets.
Elsewhere, fitness enthusiasts and bathers use RFID to access their fitness clubs and swimming pools. Clubs have designed applications that prevent queues at the tennis courts by allowing access to the courts only when they’re available. The same goes for solariums and saunas. At the snackbar or restaurant, visitors can pay for freshly squeezed orange juice with their RFID cards and use them to book additional services, such as massages. Don’t you feel more relaxed already?
