Representing a variety of companies and industries

In 2003, EPCglobal was formed as a non-profit joint venture involving the standards organisations GS1 and GS1 US.

Our management board includes representatives from around the world. They come from companies that are leaders in many fields, including the retailing, aerospace, high-tech, pharmaceutical, engineering, telecommunications and consumer goods industries. Scientific institutes are also represented on the EPCglobal management board.

By the end of 2007 more than 1,100 companies worldwide already joined EPCglobal. Together, we are trying to pave the way for the widespread introduction of RFID on the basis of the Electronic Product Code (EPC). Business and technical experts from these companies meet in EPCglobal Action and Working Groups in order to identify business demand for the technology and to develop technical standards. These standards enhance RFID- and EPC-enabled software and hardware. EPCglobal and its members maintain an ongoing dialogue with political representatives at international, national, regional and local level.
