What is EPCglobal?

Promoting global standards for EPC applications

EPCglobal inc. (a subsidiary of GS1) is the organisation that is leading the development of industry-driven EPC (Electronic Product Code) standards in connection with the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) among business partners.

We are a non-profit, subscriber-driven organisation which includes producers, retailers, and technology and logistics providers. Members come from a variety of familiar sectors, such as consumer electronics, fashion, food, retailing, pharmaceuticals and the aerospace industry. We work together to create international standards for the EPCglobal Network. The network will employ RFID and other technologies for the secure retrieval of information about items in the supply chain that are tagged with EPC. This will produce many of the benefits outlined on this site.

Since October 2003, our goal has been to help companies share information about their products and processes, so that they can increase their productivity and efficiency and pass these gains on to consumers.

EPCglobal has developed this consumer-oriented website to enable you to understand what is behind RFID and EPC and how the technology helps companies, institutions and organisations make your life easier and safer – in other words, better.
